My favorite story? God’s story. It’s a story of great love, great loss, and great redemption. I’m learning how my own story fits into His.
I’ve had quite the cast of characters join me through the years. I’m a mom of two girls by birth (Kelsey and Emma), a stepmom again to three (twins – Landon & Lindsey, and Brendan), and a mother-in-law (Kelsey’s husband, Richard). My husband and I are still newlyweds, married in May of 2016, and learning how God loves to give second chances.
My story has included some good times and quite a few not-so-good times. Perhaps that’s why I’ve always loved those stories of overcoming – to prepare me to live my story. The worst? The death of my daughter, Emma and my marriage to her dad that ended divorce.
And yet through seasons of sorrow, I’ve learned that these broken places don’t define me. They don’t determine the end of my story. Jesus does. He rescued me from the pit and set my feet on solid ground. He restored hope and peace in the darkest of moments. He redeems my sorrow and comforts my soul.
I share my stories at a couple of different places. A Big Umbrella is a space where I write about loss and suffering, hope and resilience. That’s where I write about my daughter’s death, navigating heartbreak, and finding hope in the One who has the power to heal. Tales From a Blender is a space where I tell stories about my family: how we’re blending, the struggles of a second marriage, and God’s continued display of His goodness and redemptive nature to all seven of us.
